Upload and link documents in WordPress

You can upload and link to documents in posts and pages. Currently you can upload the following file formats:

  • .pdf (Portable Document Format)
  • .ppt, .pptx (Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation)
  • .doc, .docx (Word)
  • .xls, .xlsx (Excel)

To upload a document from your computer:

  1. In the post or page you wish to add the document to, click on the Add Media icon.

  2. Click on the Select Files button and choose the file from your computer.

  3. Click on the File URL button to link to the file.

  4. Click the Insert into Post button.

  5. A link to the document should now appear in your post or page.

    Hi Clint. I tried this. It wouldn’t let me upload a .doc file (I got a message security settings wouldn’t allow it). I got a .pdf file up, and tried following the instructions. It works… kind of :-| The link is there, but there’s no text. I can probably fiddle with the html to get text in there, but I thought it would be better to respond as a “new” user would. Here is the page where I’ve tried the link.

    Thanks. My mistake. I accidentally left a plugin I had been testing activated on your site (the PDF/PPT embedded viewer). I have disabled the plugin and you should be good to go now.
