About

I believe that the classroom needs to be a place of conversation. The “place” needs to be a safe and inviting environment and within this environment the conversation must be a shared and informed experience. To do this, all participants in the conversation must come prepared to exchange ideas and understandings. You have to bring something to the conversation such that you can be a part of what is happening. There is limited value in “lurking” - you have to participate, you have to prepare in whatever way and read whatever is necessary to bring yourself into the conversation. My classroom is not a place for a monologue – everyone must participate to have value. This is about a combination of the process of learning and the learning of process: these go hand-in-hand but they do not necessarily have equal footing in the classroom.
