Welcome

Thank you for taking the time to visit my Camosun College Website. I will attempt to keep this site current and meaningful. Besides providing a link to course sites for my current students, I trust this site will provide an insight into my world of teaching and learning.

I have been teaching within the School of Business and have held several administrative positions within the college since January of 1994. I have learned a lot about teaching and learning in these past years and have grown to realize that the classroom is really not about the content – it is the engagement and social interaction which ultimately leads to the development of new ideas and the further creation of knowledge. The classroom should be an environment within which we begin to understand the process of learning and with that process begin to engage our world with a fresh, creative and innovative outlook.

My graduate and post-graduate education has allowed me to better understand that I am a social-constructivist; I believe in the social and co-construction of knowledge. My research focus over the past 10 years has been about the process of learning; how individuals create knowledge, and how our learning environments need to be constructed to support knowledge creation. We need to continually examine our teaching and learning environments and ensure that the process of learning as well as the learning of process remains at the centre of what we do every day.

I am currently a Doctorate Candidate working online through Athabasca University and I am currently analyzing data to support my research project. I will attempt to build my blog (see link to the right) primarily focused on teaching and learning as well as some discussion related to my doctoral research although it may be sprinkled with the occasional rant. I will open the blog to comments.

Thanks… Stuart
